Learn the centuries old art of Decoupage with a new twist from artist Dori Bolen of ADoriables. A member of the World Wide Guild of Decoupeurs
Decoupage has a long and fascinating history that can be traced back to a variety of styles from many distant countries. Over the centuries it boasts many famous practitioners including Marie Antoinette, Madame de Pompadour, Lord Byron, and more recently, Matisse and Picasso.
During the 18th and 19th centuries this art form flourished throughout Europe. It infiltrated the court of Louis XV. Court Ladies with a creative mind snipped away at pictures and pasted them onto hatboxes, wig stands, toiletry objects and walls. keeping themselves amused for hours. The works of Boucher, Watteau, Fragonard, and many other distinguised artists came to this sticky end. Many magnificent examples of fine cutting, coloring and design can still be found today on bureaus and armoires to name a few.
